Program Notes
Lying sick in my apartment during the most miserable months of the year, I found great relief in my fond memories of being out in the nature of Cascadia (the Pacific Northwest). Going on hikes through dark cedar forests, weeklong hunting trips chasing elusive wild elk, and nearly drowning while rafting down whitewater rapids come to mind when thinking of my time outdoors. This collection of pieces was written as an active evocation of some of these memories, something that brought strength back into my spirit and helped me to break free from strong bouts of seasonal depression.
Performance Notes
[Tambora]: Played by slapping the strings with the Thumb as close to the fretboard as possible while still being over the sound hole. Like a snare drum.
Notated with all open strings marked with (x) noteheads.
[Golpe]: Played by tapping the body with the fleshy pad of the RH fingers.
An (X) notehead represents tapping the top plate while a (/) represents tapping the side of the instrument body.
